Oz Music

Oz tunes: what we like and what we make.

Oztralians enjoy all kinds of music, with classical and rock dominating. Some songs that have achieved "classic" status here are:

  • Working Class Man and Khe Sanh - Cold Chisel
  • Great Southern Land - Icehouse
  • You're the Voice - John Farnham
  • Holy Grail and Throw Your Arms Around Me - Hunters and Collectors
  • US Forces - Midnight Oil

Folk Songs such as Waltzing Matilda and The Road to Gundagai are also popular, and the Australian version of country music is also well received, with one country artist, Slim Dusty (who wrote "The Pub With no Beer"), releasing around 90 albumns.

Other Australian acts include:

  • Savage Garden
  • Dragon
  • Mondo Rock
  • Human Nature
  • Bachelor Girl
  • Kylie Minogue
  • The Masters Apprentices
  • Silverchair
  • Natalie Imbruglia
  • Choir Boys
  • Divynils
  • Hoodoo Gurus
  • The Superjesus
  • INXS
  • Tina Arena
  • The Whitlams
  • Killing Heidi

Most cities have at least 2 rock type commercial radio stations, at least one of which will be part of the Australia wide Austereo Network. Classical music is largely broadcast be the government owned ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation), who also run TripleJ, which is best described as an "alternative" Australia wide station.
